About me.

Hi there, my name’s Simon. I live in sunny Leeds, UK and I make websites.

I’ve been working with the web in one form or another for a number of years and over that time I’ve managed to gain experience in many aspects of web design and development.

I currently work as a Front-end Web Developer for NHS Choices, creating XHTML & CSS for one of the largest websites in Europe, where my work has to meet strict accessibility and code quality standards.

My main skills lie in front-end design and development, using Photoshop and Illustrator to design user interfaces, before working them up into valid (X)HTML/CSS websites which are clean, accessible and easy to use. I can also add a sprinkle of jQuery when needed for some extra functionality, as well as a smattering of PHP/MySQL for dynamic elements. At the centre of my work is a strong focus on accessibility and usability.

I have a real interest in the theoretical side of web design as well, and I spend a lot of time researching usability, accessibility issues, and how people interact with websites. I am constantly looking to expand my skills, and have been fortunate enough to work with some extremely talented and knowledgeable people over the years.

In addition to web design, I’ve also spent time working as a print designer and so I know my way around InDesign and Quark, as well as having an understanding of the print process.

When I’m not staring at lines of code and wrestling with cross browser inconsistencies, I spend my time listening to a wide variety of lovely music, burying my head in a good book, or spending a few hours at the gym in a futile attempt to maintain some semblance of a healthy lifestyle.
